Marian Anderson Leets

Marian A. Leets, age 93, of Houston, TX and formerly of Hobart, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

Marian was born on June 22, 1929 to the late Robert and Edna (nee Swanson) Anderson.  She was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1946.

Marian married her husband of 69 years, William C. Leets, on February 19, 1948.  Early in her marriage she worked in the City Clerk's Office at Hobart City Hall.  Once her children were in school, she worked as a secretary at Broadway Lumber in Gary and then George Earle School in Hobart.  At age 39, Marian moved on to study Elementary Education at Indiana University Northwest.  Once she received her bachelor's degree, she returned to George Earle School and taught first grade.  During her early years of teaching, Marian obtained her master's degree from Valparaiso University.  She retired in 1994 after 20 years of teaching,

Marian was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma (Alpha Omega Chapter), Hobart Order of the Eastern Star, and Lake County Retired Teachers.

Marian is survived by her children: David (Karen) Leets of Downers Grove, IL and Diane (Anthony) Zuccarini of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Amanda (Chris) Johnson, Angela (Kyle) Kelly, Andrea (Mark) Sumlin, and Jeffrey (Rachel) Leets; great-grandchildren: Case and Avery Johnson, Gwendolyn Kelly, Christopher, Madelyn, Timothy, Benjamin, Samuel, Lily, Everett, and Gabriel Sumlin, and Charles Leets; sister: Sharon (James) Whitinghill; sister-in-law: Norma Anderson; and special nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Marian is preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents, Robert and Edna, and brothers: Wayne, Richard, and Allan Anderson.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home Hobart Chapel 600 W. Old Ridge Rd, Hobart on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 10:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.  A funeral service will follow visitation beginning at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Charles Strietelmeier officiating.  At Rest, Chesterton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marian's name may be made to the Clarewood House Charitable Trust: 7400 Clarewood Dr, Houston, TX 77036.  In the memo line, please write "Leets Memorial".
