Shirley Jo Murphy

Shirley Jo Murphy, age 72, of Hobart passed away Wednesday October 4, 2023, at home with her family and cats by her side. Shirley was born August 27, 1951, in Gary, Indiana to the late William and Ruth (Clay) Belsha. She was a loan officer and account manager with several banks including Hobart Federal Savings Bank. Shirley loved her family and was considered the neighborhood mom to many. She loved her flowers and gardening. Shirley loved her cats and watching sports, including UFC, Professional Bull Riding, and baseball especially the White Sox.

She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Murphy; two children, Kevin Galka of Portage and Kelly (Jeff) Zemburski of Crown Point; three grandchildren, Kalie, Emily, and Ethan; and her brother, Atha Wayne (Donna) Belsha of Lake Station.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial visitation will be held for Shirley on Wednesday October 11, 2023, from 2-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342
